Best Critique Videos to Watch

This is just an outline, I’m not always linking to the video.

This assumes some background in critique by the viewer.  Ideally this is best for a JV or Varsity debater or a very advanced novice debater who understands the critique.

  1. Dartmouth Critique Lecture
  2. Emory Critique Practice Debate
  3. Dartmouth Critique Debate (optional)
  4. Slow Critique Debate (Military Presence topic).  Not sure how to find this one.
  5. Mike Shakelford’s Capitalism mini-lecture from Berkeley (CNDI) (link)
  6. The Speech from Northwestern (there is video and text for this)
  7. Theory Debate (there are two Georgetown lectures on impact analysis, I would recommend the first one).  Simply an explanation of impact filters and theory filters should be sufficient.
  8. Understanding how permutations work is also important. ****
  9. There are a number of actual critique debates that are probably worth watching.  You can find those on YouTube specifically or by asking on or on Debate Vision here.
  • The lecture called “The Speech” is about winning more broadly, but is great none-the-less.

There are a number of K mini-lectures that may be helpful from Andres Gannon (link)

If you know where these lectures are or have any suggestions, feel free to add them in the comments.
