What are the different types of theory in policy debate?

Any argument that says “this should be allowed in debate/this should not be allowed in debate or this is bad for debate”

Generally with one or more of the following implication:

1) exclude this argument

2) vote against them

Bobby’s list above is pretty decent. I would suggest looking at the theory files that come out of camp–which may be more extensive.

Permutation theory and justification and/or attack of various types of permutations are also part of theory.

Explanation of how the ballot should work or the purpose of the ballot is theory as well.

All arguments have theory:

1) DA (intrinsicness)

2) Counterplans (topicality, conditionality/dispositionality, plan inclusive, process counterplans, alternative agent & international counterplans)

3) Critiques (role of the ballot/framework, permutation, types of alternatives)
