Hip-Hop, Consumer Culture, Rape and Debate

Rationalization/Excuse: “Because we understood he didn’t mean that, it was just rhymes.”

Thats using euphemism or misdirection or mis-framing to sanitize or erase the truth.

It wasn’t genocide…it was just a game.

In looking at these questions I think there are 3 things to consider:
1. writer/rapper intent
2. practical effects of lyrics
3. culture and ideology it encourages

Without looking at all 3 its impossible to address the question in whole.

I’m open to the possibility that one or more of the above is connected.

Artists usually don’t make art for no reason. They often have an ideological agenda.
