The myths novice year creates for debaters

1) Myth #1: Speed wins debates
2) Myth #2: Crazy arguments wins debates

Neither of these is useful without sound skills of:
1) evidence and impact comparison
2) debate smarts & persuasion skills
3) Hint: You win as a team.
4) Hint: You win due to a combination of quality preparation, deep thinking, and the ability to think on your feet.

Rather than focusing on the former….it often may make sense to focus on the later. Find where you want to get leverage….or where you already have it….and optimize it.

One way to do this….
1) Be reflective about your strengths and weaknesses as a debater and team
2) Read this blog
3) Do intell on the wiki and look for patterns
4) Read the camp files and look for patterns.
5) Focus on your answer 2 blocks–focus on refutation and class (and impact & evidence comparison)
6) Begin with the end in mind.
